Styles and trends are not necessarily always new but most of them are mostly existing. Some could be a 10, 20 or 100 years old. What brings in the trend is the fashion that is followed in the industry to gain a massive amount of attention from the audience.
Graphic Designers should be aware and get inspired from what the trends are, not exactly copying but following them. Also small businesses and Entrepreneurs should be aware to ensure that they are contemporary and relevant to it.
2020 has got so much in the bag for every industry. Expectation are high on bet and we welcome the unexpected much. Graphics have been changing faces since the media industry grew far away from where it originated. The amount of money spent on digital content is set way too high compared to ever been. Let us see what 2020 holds for the graphics industry.
1. BetaMax
Betamax are rainbow colors, resonated as a pattern. They reflect a sense of positivity qand comfort and are appealing to the audience to connect. They have reference to abstract art which shows creativity, message and uniqueness. Also they have references to 60's and 70's furniture brands which has fun and joy and playful sense.
2. 1890's Ornate
These are the artwork majorly decorated around a specific subject. These are what you see in usually bars and cafe's. They present a sense of culture and more sense of revival of one's self making it much appealing to anyone. It is totally against the concept of minimalism. it's basically maximalism but in a subjected way.
3. Double Exposure
These have been seen a lot in motion design. These are an image aligned against an imagery ( basically called as silhouette ) which deflect the actual sense of an image relating it to a better sense of understanding. Generated by masking images against another, it represents, artism, poetry, a strong intended emotion towards something.
4 .Electric Gradients
These are high tone color gradients illuminated with bright colors and shadows. Multiple smooth color gradients overtalking the entire image area. it's negative to materialism and flat designs which have been a trend in last couple years. They are used in illustrations, and design layout framing and typography elements, can be used as major idea or just as a small element in the background or so.
Earlier prints have been hard to produce in the prints and in the physical elements but now that everything is digital, they are no barriers and limitations to designs.
5. PaperCut
They are recognised by hand cut paper or torn paper using realistic shadows to create physical 3 dimensional space that appear as object. Again it inherits the hand crafted trend. A level of high touch and labour intensiveness, active physical creation. Its being used everywhere, in books, in posters in illustrations, craft designs and typography.
6. Sign Painter
These can be recognised by vintage sign painters fonts, a hand brushed, hand stroked letter fonts. Cursives, paired with San Serif block letters make an amazing combo. These are against the clean block fonts generated by the computer generated designs.
These go with the traditional hand crafted design with the moderns contexts.
7. Geo Max
These are recognised by super clean simple geometric abstract shapes, tubes, circles, bright colors. It's continuation to neo geo trend from 2019 but it's even simpler and more attractive. These bring reference from peter max's illustrations from 1970's or the yellow submarine movie by beetle. It's emotionally fun, it looks modern, it's clean and simple yet appealing.
8. Isometric Illustrations
These are 3D illustration of objects or a layout which is represented isometrically showing a model or plan in a much appealing way than any 2D design. They are used heavily in business landing pages, animations, advertising and perspective designs.
9. Hyper Minimalism
These are extreme minimal designs curated out of letters and abstracted into other elements. These are used in beauty and pharma and health & beauty aid categories. Also been used in books and literature or letterheads & poster designs. It's the exact opposite of hand crafted, it's cold, isolated and distanced elements brought to designs that communicate very clearly
